Abstract

Intergenerational educational mobility is a critical indicator for gauging the equality of educational opportunity and the level of social mobility, and is of great significance for advancing social equity and realizing common prosperity. The academic circle has produced extensive research on intergenerational educational mobility. Still, there is a shortage of papers that provide a relatively systematic review of dimensions such as influencing factors, heterogeneity, and research prospects. Accordingly, this paper presents a comprehensive overview of studies relevant to intergenerational educational mobility. Apart from explicating core concepts related to intergenerational educational mobility, it mainly introduces the latest research advances in two key areas: the factors influencing intergenerational educational mobility and its heterogeneity, and further discusses existing limitations as well as future development directions.
